The exhibition describes the success story of a high-quality Finnish product that has sailed the world's oceans for more than forty years.
The story began in 1966 when Mr. Koskenkylä decided to make a new type of 10m yacht out of fibre glass; one that could cruise on the sea but also compete in races. Swan 36 "Tarantella" was the first Swan yacht produced and it was launched in June 1967. It proved successful in competitions and in the following year, Swan 36 "Cesse Tete II" won seven out of seven races during “Cowes Week' in England.
When Swan 65 "Sayula II" won the first Whitbread Round the World competition in 1974 a Finnish legend and a major brand was born.
The exhibition runs from 1 to 31 August, 2012 on Suomen Joutsen. Swan yachts arrive in TurkuSwan yachts can be seen competing in the Swan Archipelago Regatta 2012 from 16 to 19 August.
