ContextThe Archipelago TrailThe scenic route around the Turku Archipelago takes you through stunning nature and cultural landscapes. The route covers about 250 kilometres, including some 10 archipelago municipalities, 12 bridges and nine ferry crossings. By car you can do the Trail in a day – but why hurry in such a beautiful place? Consider making the trip by bicycle. Stop at beaches, museums and nature trails.
Turku - Pargas (Parainen)When you go south from Turku, the Archipelago Trail takes you along Road 180 past the center of Kaarina and onwards to Pargas. Along the way (24 km), you can take a 6-km detour to the Kuusisto Castle ruins. There´s also plenty to see in Pargas. Pargas (Parainen) - Nagu (Nauvo)Ten kilometres after Pargas is the Sattmark Cottage Café, with beaches and nature trails located nearby. The trip from the café to Lillmälö ferry dock (11 km) takes you through the amazing nature trails of the Lenholm Nature Reserve. The voyage from Lillmälö to Prostvik takes 10 minutes, and it’s 15 kilometres from the Prostvik ferry dock to Nagu village center. Nagu (Nauvo) - Korpo (Korppoo) - Houtskär (Houtskari)The ferry trip from Nagu to Pärnäs is 14 kilometres, and on the other side it’s 12 kilometres from Retais to the next ferry in Galtby, Korpo. The trip from Galtby to Kittuisin Houtskär takes about half an hour. On the way to Houtskär village center (12 km), you can drop in at the Trollberg viewing point or Järvis Outlook Tower. Houtskär also has an interesting archipelago museum.
