Child Upbringing and Family Counselling Services

The child upbringing and family counselling clinic provides services to resolve the difficulties of children, young persons and their families.  Services are provided to families with children, who are residents of Turku.

Families have access to professional help provided by a child psychiatrist, psychologist and social worker.  The emphasis is on the child's welfare within the family, and issues are addressed in a way which takes the entire family into consideration.  Most of the work consists of counselling aimed at preventing problems from growing bigger and becoming critical.

In what type of situation may a family seek counselling?

Child upbringing and family counselling services may be contacted when a family is concerned over matters such as:

• Crises associated with different life stages
• Crises associated with the family's developmental stages and life situations, or other difficult family situations
• Difficulties with parenthood
• Difficulties in early interaction
• Difficulties after a divorce
• Suspecting the child has developmental difficulties
• Concern over the behaviour of a child or a young person
• The child's inability to concentrate, aggressiveness, inability to function in a group, difficulty in drawing limits, fearfulness, timidity, sleep difficulties, symptoms of anxiety, mild depression.

How are the services accessed?

Parents can make an appointment with the Social Services Centre Customer Service and Guidance, tel. 02 262 5001, Monday through Friday 8:30 AM - 4 PM.
