Distance Teaching

Distance teaching is utilized in small group religion teaching and in the teaching of some languages in the comprehensive schools of Turku. This aims to decrease student transport, increase teaching in year groups instead of mixed groups, and to broaden the selection of optional languages.

In the distance teaching of basic education the teacher and the students are physically in different locations during the lesson but are connected via information technology. Adobe Connect web conferencing software is used in the distance teaching of Turku City basic education. The students participating in the lesson can see and hear each other with the help of web cameras and headsets or conference microphones. It is also possible to draw, write, listen to recordings and to watch pictures and videos.

Participating in distance teaching does not require any special technical skills from the students. Also a supervisory adult is always present with the students to help them on demand. According to studies the learning results of distance teaching are fully comparable to traditional class teaching.
