Turku receives recognition for climate work among European cities aiming for carbon neutrality
Turku wants to be one of the world’s leading cities in terms of climate and nature. Our goal is to become a carbon-neutral city by 2029. One international dimension in Turku's climate work is the EU Mission ‘100 Climate-neutral and Smart Cities’, for which Turku was selected in 2022. Turku has now received recognition from the European Commission for the City’s pioneering role in the realisation of its Climate City Contract related to the mission.

Mayor of Turku, Minna Arve, will participate in the mayors’ “Translating the EU Green Deal into Local Action” conference in Brussels on March 15th. The conference aims to influence the EU's strategic agenda by emphasizing the significant role of cities in climate action. Additionally, Mayor Arve will participate in a dialogue with city and business representatives convened by the Vice-President of the Commission and meet several key Commission officials during the trip.

Mayor Minna Arve Invited to Munich Security Conference's Responsible Leadership Program
The Mayor of Turku, Minna Arve, has been invited to participate in the Responsible Leadership program held as part of the Munich Security Conference from February 15th to 18th. The invitation-based program brings together a high-level group of visionary leaders from the public sector, business world, and academia. As part of the program, Arve will also participate in a panel discussion on the role of cities in democracy.

Helsinki and Turku launch new measures to continue avid protection of the Baltic Sea
The Finnish cities of Helsinki and Turku have renewed their efforts to protect the Baltic Sea with a new Action Plan for their joint Baltic Sea Challenge initiative. The plan for the fourth policy period of 2024–2028 focuses in particular on reducing harmful substances transported by stormwater, increasing biodiversity, and enhancing cooperation and inclusion. Widespread collaboration and societal involvement are recognised as particularly important in efforts to maintain a healthy Baltic Sea.

Plenty of goods donated to Kharkiv help effort
A campaign arranged by the City of Turku between December 7–10 to help residents of the city of Kharkiv brought in large amounts of electric and heating equipment. A total of 122 donors, ranging from private individuals to groups of friends and companies, participated in the aid campaign.

Turku can, for a good reason, be called the imaging capital of Finland and even the entire Europe. The city is home to both the headquarters of the Euro-BioImaging research infrastructure and the national Turku PET Centre, one of the continent’s most important medical imaging centres.

Turku and Hamburg selected to be host cities for the EU Baltic Sea Region cooperation
Starting from October, the regional cooperation of EU countries bordering the Baltic Sea has a joint coordination hub in Finland and Germany. The newly established Baltic Sea Strategy Point will act as a support unit for the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.
