The municipal environmental protection authority supervises the compliance of the Finnish waste legislation and municipal waste management regulations that are based on the legislation. Turku City Environmental Protection supervises the waste management of companies, institutions and properties and the cleanliness of their surroundings. Supervision is realized through systematic inspections of companies as well as inspections based on hints from citizens, among other means.

If you notice littering, follow these instructions:

  • Large or dangerous waste next to the waste bins of a property: notify the property manager
  • Large or dangerous waste next to the recoverable waste (paper, glass, metal) bins or the bins are too full: notify the company responsible for emptying the bins, or the city’s Environmental Protection
  • An abandoned car on the yard of a property: notify the property manager
  • An abandoned car on a public area: notify the Public Utility Property Management (give the exact location of the car, its make, colour and registration number if the plates are still there)
  • For example refuse sacks, furniture, domestic appliances, hazardous waste, or piles of garden waste in a park, forest, roadside or other public area: notify Environmental Protection via the feedback service of Turku City:
