Café Kisälli

Contact

The peaceful and idyllic Café Kisälli is located in a wooden building dating back to the 1850s, right next to the museum. The range of products includes both savory pies and sweet pastries.

Café Kisälli’s interior was remodelled in the early 1970s based on the designs of interior architect Carin Bryggman. Bryggman designed the interior primarily according to contemporary trends, but in a way that also allowed the history of the building to remain visible. The ‘red room,’ for example, was furnished with 70s design classics, such as Kari chairs from the Korhonen factory and lamps designed by Poul Henningsen.

Kisälli is Finnish for journeyman, a craftsman who in his education had passed his apprenticeship and reached a certain amount of independency. Journeymen often travelled across Europe, working with and learning from master craftsmen in different countries. Finnish journeymen often went to S:t Petersburg or Germany.
