Turku Philharmonic Orchestra public final rehearsals

In the final rehearsal, the whole repertoire is played trough and the duration varies depending on the concert programme and performers. The Concert Hall is opened at 10.30 am and the hall doors only a few minutes before the beginning of the rehearsal. The café at the Concert Hall is not open. There is no entrance fee to public rehearsals.

Museums of the City of Turku

28–29 April - Photography workshop, Kylämäki Village of Living History
A theme of pinhole photography with artist Hans G. Hästbacka. The photographs will be collected into an exhibition for the ‘Oh what a lovely May!’ event of the museum 26–27 May.

7 April at 10.30–11.30 am - Creative exercise, Wäinö Aaltonen Museum of Art
Come and experience an exhibition in a completely new way, through all your senses and your whole body! The tour is guided by dance artist and teacher Satu Tuittila. Please equip with stretchy clothes and a curious mind. Previous experience on dancing is not required. Entrance fee 3 €.

21 April at 6–9 pm – St. Petersburgian evening, Wäinö Aaltonen Museum of Art
During the St. Petersburgian evening, you can enjoy Anna Ahmatova’s St. Petersburgian atmosphere from the beginning of the 1910s when artists came together at the Stray Dog Cabaret. Café Wäinö will be serving Russian delicacies. Entrance fee 10 €.

During the evening: Mihail Ionin’s singing performances at 6.30 and 7.30 pm, and guided tours to the Anna Ahmatova Exhibition at 6, 7, and 8 pm. Also, poetry workshop, costume rental, and book shop.

24–26 April - Baby Week guided tours and workshops, Wäinö Aaltonen Museum of Art
Tue 24 April at 10.30 am and 1 pm, Wed 25 April at 10.30 am and 1 pm, Thu 26 April at 1 pm

The workshop is open to 12 babies with their parents. During the tour, you will see paintings by Hannu Väisänen and can have a sneak peek into Anna Ahmatova’s house built in the sculpture hall of the museum. The workshop is for painting with berries and purées. As painting can be messy, please take with you a towel and a change of clothes for your baby. The tour and workshop together take around an hour.

Swimming slots for adults at Petrelius Swimming Hall, Ruiskatu 2

  • Women Saturdays 17 March–19 May at 5–6.30 pm
  • Men Sundays 18 March–20 May at 5–6.30 pm

Normal swimming hall entrance fees, series tickets, and wristbands are applicable during men’s and women’s time slots. Lifeguards are of the same sex as the group. No sign-up.

Homework Help club on Tuesdays 27 Feb–17 April at 2–4 pm, Main Library children’s department
In the Homework Help club organised by the Finnish Red Cross, volunteer instructors help you with your homework. The club is primarily targeted at children going to primary school, and it offers an opportunity to spend time with safe adults while doing homework. The Homework Help clubs are particularly aimed at children who have immigrated to Finland, but all schoolchildren are welcome to join. The instructors are volunteers trained by the Red Cross.

Welcome to speak Finnish! At the Language Café, you can practice the Finnish language by speaking it in a cosy atmosphere. Knowing the basics is recommended when you join. Joining is free of charge.

‘Suomen sanat tutuiksi’ (Let’s Learn Finnish Words) discussion course on Wednesdays at 1–3 pm, Main Library (Linnankatu 2), second floor of the café
In this course, every Wednesday you get to do instructed discussion exercises that help you to learn fluent spoken language and different ways of expressing the same thing. Books, papers, and Internet materials are used as support. The course is open to 5 participants, who are chosen according to the sign-up order. Turku Women’s Centre is responsible for the instruction.

11 April at 1–3 pm - Trekking Destinations in the Turku Region info event, Main Library Studio
Come and hear about interesting trekking destinations in Turku and its surroundings. This info event will provide you with advice for self-directed trekking and exploring of the local nature. We will present i.e. forgotten nature destinations in Turku. Joining us will be Ann-Mari Rannikko, a journalist from Turun Sanomat, also familiar from the Luonto Plus programme on TSTV.
