An application is being developed for the collective South-West Finland marketing campaign “Töihin tänne” in cooperation with an award-winning start-up company from Turku. The application will make it easy for potential new south-western Finnish employees to search for further information about south-western Finnish municipalities, cities, and residential areas. The name of the service will be Know Your Hoods.

Survey

The survey can be found on www.knowyourhoods.fi/vastaa.

It is open on 5–26 Sep 2018.

– The application helps its user with reflecting on where to move – which municipality, city, or district is the most attractive one and what will it have to offer for them, personally. The application is constructed through open interfaces, out of the contents of several different actors, explains CEO Susanna Lahtinen from Choose Your Future, the company developing the service.

Choose Your Future is a Turku company that creates digital solutions for integration and has previously, in 2015, created an application directed to immigrants which was awarded by Facebook, and recently a new My Mobile Tutor application aimed at the new students of the University of Turku. The know-how brought by these previous executions will be utilised also in the planning of the new application. The new application will be constructed with a “Töihin tänne” design, and its first version is expected to be ready for launching at the beginning of next year.

Support development work by answering a survey

As a part of the development work, a large survey will be conducted, starting from 5 Sept 2018. The survey asks from those considering to migrate or those already decided on migrating for information about the wishes, needs, and challenges that affected or will affect their decision. The idea is to hopefully receive answers from both Finnish and international migrants – therefore, it is possible to answer in both Finnish and English.

In addition to the survey, personal interviews will be conducted during autumn 2018, and they will be used for deepening the understanding of the wishes and needs of the migrants. One may register as a participant in the interview by leaving their contact information on the end of the survey form. The interviewees will be selected over the autumn.

– Our objective is no less than to develop together the South-West of Finland into the best place to live and work. The results of the survey will be directly utilised for promoting the attractiveness of the region and developing new services, says Janne Virtanen, Director for Promotion of Regional Interests at the Regional Council of Southwest Finland, who is responsible for the coordination of the “Töihin tänne” concept.

The development work for the application is financed by the “Töihin tänne” fund by the Southwest Finland Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centre). During the autumn, the “Töihin tänne” marketing concept will continue as a common project of several south-western Finnish municipalities, cities, and public actors, aiming to together increase the attractiveness of the South-West of Finland in order to attract new migrants to the region.

English survey was commissioned by Turku Science Park Ltd. as part Talent Turku ecosystem development.
