The Culture Card 2.0 development workshops held back in January were all about planning the future of the service in collaboration with Culture Card holders, professionals in the field of open art and the staff of the City of Turku Recreation Division.

A whopping 223 Culture Card holders applied to participate in the workshops, with 53 ultimately invited to attend. The selection was carried out based on the aim of gathering as diverse a group of Culture Card users as possible.

The chosen participants had plenty of thoughts and wishes and came up with ideas with open minds and great enthusiasm.

– The results of the workshops highlighted a clear need for increasing the sense of community and interaction. In response, we decided to go ahead and start holding tours for Culture Card holders this spring, which was one of the ideas presented at the workshops. The purpose of these tours is to enable random encounters with other Culture Card holders. Many participants wished for opportunities to share thoughts about cultural experiences with other card-holders following relevant events in order to deepen and share the experience, states Director of the City of Turku Recreation Division Minna Sartes.

The first tours on which Culture Card holders will get a chance to meet one another will be organised on a trial basis in March-April at WAM, Turku Castle and Turku City Theatre. Invitations to the tours have been sent primarily to those who applied for and participated in the future workshops.

There is still room on some of the tours, so be sure to register using the links below if you’re interested, as the number of places is limited. If the tours prove successful, the aim is to organise more of them for all Culture Card holders in the future.

– Some of the most interesting ideas presented at the Culture Card development workshops included a currency for accumulating cultural capital, a sharing economy platform for culture and a method for utilising these to measure the impact of well-being on things like the use of social and health care services or the direct economic benefits of available cultural services.

– The development of the Culture Card will continue based on the results received, and in the future the aim is to also make the Culture Card digital. We will be providing more information on the card’s development as the plans solidify, says Director Minna Sartes.
