The Night of the Arts is set to fill the city centre of Turku with art experiences on Thursday 15 August 2019. Mingle with a magician at WAM or spend the night with animals at the Biological Museum. Or why not pick up something to read at the used book market or take a peek behind the scenes at Turku City Theatre’s open house? Children can also enjoy their own adventure at Samppalinna hill.

Night of the animals at the Biological Museum

What does the hooting of an owl or the barking of a fox sound like? What about poetry reading in the twilight? Come and listen to facts and stories about the night of the animals or take an evening bat trip at the Sports Park. The museum is open 18:00–23:00.

Wäinö Aaltonen Museum of Art celebrates Night of the Arts with magic

This summer’s HC Berg exhibition features innovative light and colour experiences, perfect for an August evening. During the evening, visitors will also have a chance to get a taste of the upcoming Clowne Moderne tours with contemporary clown T.A.Idé. Meanwhile magician and mentalist Johannes Malkamäki will be astounding the audience with some spectacular conjuring tricks.

In addition to this, the Ekoluoto area located next to WAM will be filled with a series of flags as part of an art piece by Terike Haapoja and Laura Gustafsson, intended to remind people of biodiversity. The accompanying video work Embrace Your Empathy and related manifesto will be displayed in the museum lobby.

Used book sale and a versatile range of music at the Main Library

Dig through used books and records while listening to some mellow tunes at the Main Library. In Saga, children can enjoy the antics of Täti Monika ja Pingviiniorkesteri. Meanwhile the duo Tilhet, pajut ja muut linnut will be filling the library yard with some nature-oriented melodies, which will give way to some blues from Turku later in the evening. Turku Main Library will be open 9:00–20:00 on the Night of the Arts.

A sneak peek of the theatre’s autumn season

Enjoy a sneak peek of the simply delightful autumn of Turku City Theatre!  The programme includes the open rehearsals of the musical Amélie and the comedy Don Juan as well as a small second-hand sale event A new life for treasures organised by the wardrobe department. The café in the lobby is open, in addition to which you can meet theatre artists on the lobby stage and purchase discount tickets from Lippis.

Free tickets to the rehearsal will be available at Lippis on Monday 12 August at 15:00–17:00. Max. 4 tickets per person.

Welcome to experience a true cultural and sporting venture exploring the hills of Samppalinna Park. The event is free of charge and takes place at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. offering different workshops of visual arts and poetry, puppet shows and musical instruments not forgetting climbing and balancing between the great trees in the park.
