The Forum Marinum area is a centre for Turku’s maritime events and it often acts as the venue for cultural events and large events.

The Forum Marinum area, located at the mouth of the Aurajoki river, is characterised by interesting buildings, old port cranes and fascinating museum ships from various eras, such as Suomen Joutsen, that make it a unique venue for events.

The Forum Marinum area and its vicinity also contain the Turku Castle, the ship hostel Bore and busy port traffic.

Many kinds of cultural and large events have been held in the area, including the Tall Ships Races, the annual opening ceremony of the River Harbour, the Kumiankan puuhapäivä children’s event, strongest man/woman competitions, performances of Richard Wagner’s opera The Flying Dutchman, and concerts and theatre performances as well as the opening performance of Turku’s year as the 2011 European Capital of Culture.
