A unique audiovisual experience: Colourscape
Last summer, Colourscape attained great popularity during Turku’s year as Euopean Capital of Culture. As a result of the great demand it created, it has been brought back to Turku and Kupittaa Park from 17 July to 5 August. The Colourscape programme is again very diverse, but it will especially focus on collaborations with local musicians.
This summer, Colourscape will feature both live and recorded music from Wednesday to Sunday; and on Tuesdays and Wednesdays it will feature workshops that combine colour, light and music. The design of the music programme has been overseen by many talents including those involved in the Turku Modern and Ilmiö festivals and The X-Rust Organization.
The workshops include the colour bath workshops. These were especially popular with infants last year because it gave them the opportunity to be with adults while enjoying the spectacular colour world.
In this unique environment, you will be able to experience The X-Rust Organization’s jam-session for synthesizers (1 Aug.), David Stevens’s computer-generated music for children with special needs (workshops 25 Jul.), atmospheric choral harmony in the style of Le Mystére des Voix Bulgares by Slavonic Tractor (18 Jul.) as well as flashbacks from the Turku Modern festival (28 Jul.). The content is the result of British-Finnish cooperation.
Colourscape consists of about one hundred colourful spheres that are interconnected to bend light and create unique colour-saturated experiences. The giant web of interconnected cells filters the sun's rays to a produce a feast of colours, providing a new environment in which to experience music and art.
Colourscape was visited by 15,000 people over three weeks last summer. Eye Music Trust (UK), which specialises in creating audio-visual experiences, are now bringing Colourscape to Finland for the second time. The event is a continuation of Turku’s Capital of Culture year. The local organiser is the Bryggman-instituutti.
