The Island of Ruissalo off Turku is known for its lush groves, ornate villas, Ruissalo Spa, the Ruisrock music festival, the pea soup at Honkapirtti café and the Botanical Gardens.
Whatever brings you to the island, Ruissalo Camping at Saaronniemi, towards the farthest end of the island, is a good place to start. There’s a beautiful beach and a wonderful old summer café.
The nautical scenery with its shoreline cliffs and sandy beaches provides plenty to see, and Saaronniemi is a great destination for a daytrip. Enjoy a picnic on the lawn or play mini golf and beach volley. Take your bicycle along and try the island’s excellent cycling paths, or just use it to get around.
