The Role of Technology in Sustainability – view points from UTU’s Materials and Mechanical Engineering

Technology plays a considerable role in sustainable development across our globe. During this breakfast, we will start a conversation of the role of technology in sustainability from Materials Engineering viewpoint, which is the new M.Sc. (Tech) major subject in UTU. The restaurant Ruissalon Maininki located in Turku will be having considerable visibility in a restaurant series on the international streaming service Netflix, produced by Marblemedia. The visibility in an episode that is out internationally on Friday was arranged through collaboration between Visit Finland and Visit Turku.

The attractions of the City of Turku will be comprehensively showcased at the large Finnish Archipelago section (6n2) at the Matka Nordic Travel Fair 2020 from 17 to 19 January. The section highlights especially the Finnish archipelago as a fantastic travel destination and presents Turku as a gateway to the archipelago.

City of Turku will Host the FCI Agility World Championship 2019 in September

The World Championship of the best agility dogs will be held during four days at the Gatorade Center in Turku between the 19th and the 22nd of September. There will be almost 500 dogs taking part in the competition from as many as 41 different countries throughout the world and even as far as from Japan, Guatemala and Australia.

Turku seeks to host Tall Ships Races in 2021

A proposal will be introduced to Turku City Board on Monday on the City of Turku seeking to host the Tall Ships Races event in 2021 and beginning negotiations on a host port contract with Sail Training International (STI). An opportunity to host the event for the sixth time came as the hosting port status of St. Petersburg was cancelled.

The City of Turku is co-organizing a hackathon event, which is an official side event for SHIFT Business Festival. During the competition, the participating teams are trying to find solutions to prevent social exclusion, with the help of 5G network. The competition is organized together with Elisa.

Various sports events will turn Turku into a sports arena for amateurs and professional athletes in August. The public can follow triathlon, marathon and cycling races even near the downtown. In addition, the Finnish Championships in padel and adult athletics will spice up the August.
