Turku has long traditions in theatre and music. Turku City Theatre was the first fully municipality owned theatre in Finland and it was established in 1946. The Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, founded already in 1790, is the oldest orchestra in Finland. Turku is also famous for the second oldest rock festival in Europe, Ruisrock.
