Religious Events at School

In addition to the teaching of religions, schoolwork may include religious events such as services, religious morning assemblies or religious concerts. These events are considered as religious practice.

  • The student cannot be obligated to participate in religious practice against their conscience.
  • On request of the parent or guardian the student can be exempted from participating in religious events at school.
  • The student will not be exempted from schoolwork during a religious event but the school will organize alternative activities for the duration of the event.
  • Schools will notify the parents or guardians about religious events and alternative activities on time before the event.

The traditional celebrations of the school may include some elements indicative of religion. A single hymn does not mean that a celebration is a religious event, so everyone is expected to participate.
