New z-parking permits promote car sharing in the centre of Turku

As part of the development of sustainable mobility in Turku, the city has implemented a z-parking permit for shared cars. Car sharing promotes sustainable development by reducing the number of private cars and thus traffic emissions. Sharing a car among multiple users also reduces the costs associated with owning a car.

Cycling as an alternative for the daily commute in Turku

The FinnCycle research project, which began in January, studies the implementation of the next major development leap in cycling in Finland. The aim of the study is to establish cycling as part of the urban transport system. Turku participates in the study carried out by Tampere University Transport Research Centre Verne together with 12 other Finnish cities.

The winning e-biking-themed entry of the idea competition has been selected

At the end of June, a new bicycle garage will open in Kupittaa, Turku, which will enable not only bike storage, but also electric charging and bike maintenance, among other things. An e-biking-themed artwork will be created on the walls of the bike garage. The winning entry was Heidi Vuorio's Watt is Love.

Fölläri bikes as part of a smooth travel chain

In Turku, the travel chain can start with a fölläri city bike and continue from there on a waterbus. This year, the city bike network expanded all the way to Pansio and Perno.

Kupittaan kärki partnership project’s alliance moves into development phase

The City of Turku has confirmed the alliance contract of the Kupittaan kärki partnership project and the order of the project planning phase with the YIT-led Terävin kärki consortium. The project will include the implementation of a deck structure across the railway and Helsinginkatu, a parking hall and the Taito campus of the Turku Vocational Institute in the area, bringing together the districts of Kupittaa and Itäharju.

Turku is developing a master plan for electric charging - a survey will determine the charging needs of residents and businesses

Turku is speeding up the spread of electric mobility by drawing up a master plan for electric charging during the year 2023. The charging needs of residents, professional motorists, building companies, employers and other stakeholders will be clarified with an online survey open until the end of April. The survey takes into account all chargeable vehicles, i.e., in addition to electric bikes and electric cars, also heavy machinery vehicles. The general plan and the survey are made as part of the EU-funded USER-CHI project.

Vote for an artwork draft to the walls of the Logomo bridge bike garage 

A mobile bicycle garage will be built next to the Logomo bridge in Turku, with public art related to electric cycling on two walls. The art will be selected by competition.
