Street and Traffic Planning

Additional information

Traffic planning means the planning of traffic arrangement principles and the manoeuvring of traffic flows. Questions such as how much space should be reserved for car traffic, should bicycles and pedestrians have routes separate from car traffic, and where to put pedestrian crossings and bus stops, can be solved with planning. The plan concerning traffic arrangements (traffic plan) serves as a base for the street plan and the street building plan.

The implementations of traffic plans can be seen in practice for example as:

  • traffic arrangements (e.g. lane arrangements)
  • pedestrian crossings
  • traffic signs
  • road humps
  • speed limits
  • traffic lights
  • roundabouts

Street planning means the technical designing of street and traffic areas for building as well as for the positioning of devices and other equipment, such as street heights, surface materials, pavings, road humps, and lamp poles. Street plans and the associated building plans are made for the street areas according to the city plan.
