There are many possibilities for swimming in Turku during summer, though Samppalinna Swimming Stadium is closed due to renovations. Impivaara Swimming Centre is open longer than normally, and both the opening hours and opening season of Kupittaa Outdoor Swimming Arena have been extended. This summer you should also remember the fantastic beaches of Turku.

– Services of swimming pools have been extended as much as possible, so that people would have good possibilities to swim during summer. We are accepting this challenge with content, because the most important thing is that the long awaited renovation of Samppalinna Swimming Stadium is finally being realized” says Manager of Swimming Establishments Oskari Nummi.

Wristband Loading Campaign, April 18–24

You should start preparing for the summer season already because during the Wristband Loading Campaign, April 18–24, you will get one free entry if you load a series of 10 entries on your wristband. The offer applies when loading series of Impivaara Swimming Centre entries as well as any other sports and exercise facility entries. Loading the wristband in advance makes entering easier especially at Kupittaa Outdoor Swimming Arena, because a customer with a wristband can pass the cashier queue and go directly through the gate. Entries can be bought at Turku Sports Services Centre as well as Impivaara Swimming Centre and Petrelius Swimming Hall.

Maintenance periods have been shortened

Impivaara Swimming Centre is open until July 3. Impivaara is closed during maintenance between July 4 and August 7, and the autumn season will open on August 8. The public swimming hours at Petrelius are on a break between May 28 and August 28. The Paattinen Community Centre gym is open every day through the entire summer between 6.00 and 21.00. The pool at the Community Centre can be reserved until May 31 and again after September 12. The pool is closed from June 1 to August 21 and is in preschool use between August 22 and September 11.
“The swimming pools receive mandatory repairs in summer, during which the swimming pools cannot be open for public. However, the breaks will be as short as possible this summer” Nummi says.

Summer Swimming Schools at Impivaara

The children’s beginner swimming lessons that normally are held at Samppalinna Outdoor Swimming Stadium are organized at Impivaara Swimming Centre this summer. Many swimming schools for children are organized this summer: May 16–26, June 6–July 1, and August 8–17. Online enrolment to the swimming schools opens for Turku residents on May 4 at noon (12.00), and for people from outside Turku on Wednesday May 11. Information about the groups can be found on the websites of Impivaara swimming schools.

Morning swims for early birds in July

Kupittaa Outdoor Swimming Arena is open in summer between May 28 and August 21, from Monday to Friday 8.00–19.00 and on Saturdays and Sundays 10.00–19.00. If the weather is forecast to be hot in the end of August, the opening season can be extended by one week, until August 28. Kupittaa also cherishes the friends of aqua aerobics, as there are two extra aqua aerobics groups per week compared to normal, which means four aqua aerobics groups altogether. On Thursdays in July the gates will open already at 7.00 for the delight of early risers.

Five maintained beaches

Five beaches are maintained in Turku during summer. Out of these five beaches the ones in Ekvalla, Ispoinen, and Saaronniemi have lifeguards during schools’ summer vacation. In Ispoinen there is a sauna that is maintained by Turun avantouimarit ry and is subject to a charge. Freshwater beaches are in Brinkhall and Maaria.
