The centenary of Estonia’s independence will be celebrated 24 February 2018. The City of Turku will be congratulating Estonia by illuminating the Library Bridge with the colours of the Estonian flag, starting from 6 pm. Estonian national flags will also be flying on the Läntinen Rantakatu street and at Turku Castle.

Estonia celebrates its 100th year of independence this year, and the celebrations culminate in the Independence Day on Saturday 24 February. The City of Turku will join the celebrations by illuminating the Library Bridge with the colours of the Estonian flag. Estonian national flags will also be flying on the Läntinen Rantakatu street and at Turku Castle.

Turku City Theatre will take part in the Estonia100 celebrations with birthday greetings displayed on their outdoor screen. An Estonia100 video and a greetings card will be playing on the screen among theatre performance pictures.

As a countdown to the celebration day, the Museum Centre of Turku has been posting tweets about a different item every week: The “Weekly Estonians” have been tweeted since the beginning of January 2018, and the final Estonian item is presented on the eve of the Independence Day on Friday 23 February.

Turku Main Library will be celebrating Estonia’s independence by showing Lennart Meri documentaries in the Studio on 8 March, and three films on 10 March.

“100-year-old Estonia is in the hearts of the Turku citizens”

Mayor of Turku, Minna Arve, sent warm congratulations to Tartu, a twin city of Turku.

Dear Tartu citizens
