The City of Turku offers a comprehensive selection of different kinds of happenings this autumn. You can for example visit a book fair or a market celebrating the Baltic herring. You can also get inspiration to the darkening season from the dog agility competition or from the eSport.

City of Turku will have an honour to host the FCI Agility World Championship 2019 which will be organised at the Gatorade Center. There will be almost 500 dogs taking part in the competition from as many as 41 different countries throughout the world, and even as far as from Japan, Guatemala and Australia.

Speed is also offered in the Finnish Rally Championship, Mad-Croc SM Ralli Salo-Turku, which is the final competition of the season. In total nine special stages will be driven in the area of Salo and Turku. The final competition of the race will be organised at the Metsämäki Motor Show in Turku.

Student happenings will animate the city on several occasions this autumn. All the people in Turku are invited to a gathering around the table with the university students during Suursitsit to sing, eat and have a good time. During the wind music festival Puhallus, musical ensembles of brass bands and big bands coming from all the Finnish university cities will give their performances in Turku. The concerts will be organised at the Vähätori Square and at the inner yard of the Turku Main Library.

Did you know that the Turku International Puppetry Festival, TIP Fest, will celebrate already its 10th anniversary? Now if ever it is the time to let yourself be surprised and to enter the world of fantasy. The presentations organised by Finnish theatre groups and international groups are targeted mainly for the adults.

The presentation Time of my life of Aurinkobaletti AB Dance Company will bring the spectators to the ambiance of the dancing floors in the 80s. An African village festival Baila Africa with swaying rhythms and fascinating dance presentations will be organised by Dance Theatre ERI. You can continue admiring the dance presentations in special gala evenings to celebrate ERI’s 30th anniversary in October and in November.

New Performance Turku Festival offers performance and live art in the form of on-the-spot presentations. This autumn the festival will organised in collaboration with international dance professionals, Stretch 2019 Turku. The audience will be encouraged to join the dance performances.

The comic festival Stand Up, Turku! will be organised already for the 14th time. It brings more than 30 Finnish top comic actors on various stages in Turku. In the theatre, the musical Amelié and the comedy Don Juan will be presented in Finnish at the Turku City Theatre, and Kalevala, the main production of the autumn season of the Swedish-speaking theatre, Åbo Svenska Teater, will be the themes of the discussion this autumn.

The theatre will be the main theme of the Turku Book Fair this year. The cultural impacts of the climate change as well as literacy and its advancement will be brought in the spotlight. In addition to exploring books, you can sample delicacies and degust quality vines. Hundreds of exhibitors will gather once again at the Turku Fair Centre for the Turku Book Fair.

The dark evenings in autumn suit well for enjoying jazz concerts. To give an example, Flame Jazz gathers regularly top jazz artists and ensembles on various stages.

The traditional Turku Herring Market will gather public to the riverfront where the market stalls offer a wide selection of fish products, seafood and other delicacies. Special dishes made by top chefs will be served at the food festival Voillá. To be sure to get a table, you should reserve it in advance.

Christmas Market at the Old Great Square starts the Christmas season and the splendid opening ceremony of Finland’s Christmas City Turku marks the annual Christmas celebrations.
