Make a Virtual Visit to the Splendor of the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg

Related to the Hermitage Day, an virtual exhibition Virtual Visit to the Splendor of the Hermitage in St Petersburg will be opened at the Wäinö Aaltonen Museum of Art (WAM) in Turku. The State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg is one of the largest art museums in the world and has around three million objects and works of art. In the virtual exhibition in Turku, visitors can use virtual glasses to explore the Ancient Art Gallery, which is one of the 365 halls of The State Hermitage museum. There is a collection of neoclassical sculptures in the gallery containing works of Antonio Canova from the late 18th century among others. 86 wax paintings depicting Ancient Art, as well as rich ornamental patterns on the vaults and the wall surfaces feature in the background of the white glittering marble sculptures.

The virtual tour allows the visitor to navigate in the Art Gallery and to explore pieces of art at close range, even with greater precision than with the naked eye. The space is 3D modelled extremely accurately by means of photogrammetry. The VR-1 glasses are developed by the Finnish pioneer in virtual reality products, Varjo. The virtual exhibition is open from Nov 20 to Dec 19, 2019.
