The coastal zone of the Eastern Gulf of Finland has been developing rapidly over the last 20 years on both Russian and Finnish sides intensifying sustainable development in the Baltic Sea Region through the exchange of goods, materials and intellectual information. Among the processes, construction of new port complexes influenced coastal zones, which are valuable natural objects highly sensitive to anthropogenic impact. Strong cross-border cooperation is required for common approach to reduce environmental risks and to support sustainable and effective coastal zone management.

The Finnish-Russian project GET READY (Getting ready for the cross-border challenges) started on 1 May 2019 focusing on the capacity building in sustainable use of the coastal zone of the Eastern Gulf of Finland. GET READY develops and runs educational and training programs for a wide range of audience, using the accumulated experience and best practices of different stakeholders acting for the development of the region.

The goal is to prepare the cross-border region to the existing and expected challenges by introducing examples of the best practices on both sides and applying innovative solutions in the field of sustainable shore use.
