All swimming halls and indoor and outdoor exercise areas of the City of Turku are out of use. The City of Turku Sports Services are asking users to follow the regulations in all their activities – in training of adults, young people and children alike. Gathering at ball game halls, gymnasiums or outdoor sports grounds is forbidden, even in small groups.

In order to slow down the spreading of coronavirus, everyone should avoid social interaction as much as possible. This needs to be done so that we can protect those in high-risk groups and prevent the health care system from overload. Everyone is responsible for obeying the limitations to gathering and the instructions to maintain social distance.

– In this pandemic situation, all of us must do their part to make sure our health care system will maintain its capacity through difficult times. In this way, we will set an example for children and young people and prevent by our own action the spreading of a virus threatening our health – together, says Sports Services Director of the City of Turku Markus Kalmari.

Closing sports facilities is based on Government policies that limit public gathering to ten people and recommend avoiding spending time in public places unnecessarily. The Government has also decided on a policy that all state and municipal cultural institutions and many other public gathering spaces will be closed. The goal of these measures is to prevent the spreading of infection caused by coronavirus (COVID-19) and to prevent harm caused to individuals and society.
