- This is good news – we will finally get to open the doors and let the customers back in. Of all our ser-vices, the chance to read the newspapers and use the printers have been particularly missed Me kaikki kirjastolaiset olemme kaivanneet asiakkaita. We’ve planned the opening of our services very carefully and gone through the services and the library interiors with safety in mind, says Rebekka Pilppula, Library Services Director.

Library offers limited services in order to ensure safety. Loaning services are back to normal.  Libraries are open for browsing and spending time. Common use computers, printing, copying and scanning are available for customers again.
All items in shared use, such as toys and board games will be removed, same with used books that are for sale and bookcrossing carts

All library exhibitions will resume as normal as the libraries open. Virtual content, such as video streams, Instagram Live shows and podcasts will take place all summer.

Opening schedule

The Main Library will resume normal opening hours from June 1st on. Branch libraries will be open during service hours. Mobile library buses start on their normal summer schedule routes on June 1st and take their summer break from July 6th to August 2nd 2020.
Turku City Library’s branch libraries will open for self-service with limited opening hours on July 1st. The self-service hours will be Mon – Fri 7 am to 7 pm between July 1st and August 16th 2020. For a self-service visit to a branch library you will need a library card and an attached pincode. Pincode can be obtained from any Vaski library.

How to offer safe services

The library will pay continuous attention to customer and staff safety. Therefore reading spots and chairs are being culled in order to keep the safety distance. Main Library’s popular storage facilities are closed for the same reason.

Common use computers are cleaned inbetween users. Automatic loaning machines and Vaski comput-ers for online library use are cleaned every few hours. All cleaning services are accelerated to meet the Health official’s requirements. Library staff is taught safe library material handling. Furthermore the library recommends paying any dues online or using debit or credit card

In the main library janitorial staff with a guard will monitor and manage the number of customers in the building at one given time.  Branch library staff will monitor the numbers in branch libraries and will be allowed to close the library doors momentarily to avoid crowds.
