The City of Turku Education Division is expanding its face mask recommendation to pupils of grades 7–9 in secondary schools during optional subject classes as of 23 November. Students from parallel classes will be attending optional subject classes, and wearing masks will protect pupils from exposure as groups of pupils mix. The school will provide the pupils with masks, but they may wear their own mask if they wish.
We have previously strongly recommended the use of face masks to all upper secondary level students, and the City would like to remind everyone to wear masks on buses.
As Turku Vocational School returns to partial face-to-face education, students and staff are required to wear face masks on school premises and in their on-the-job-learning workplaces.
A mask recommendation has already been issued to the Education Division staff earlier in the autumn. Staff must wear masks/visors in e.g. face-to-face education, in shared areas in the daycare centre/school and especially when moving in crowded places, i.e. near entrances to classrooms, service points, exits, the cafeteria and similar places.
The City of Turku recommends the use of face masks in public spaces and buses. We request sports clubs to notify children and their parents or guardians and recommend that school-aged children wear a face mask in indoor sports facilities at all times other than during the physical exercise or training. The use of a face mask is further required from all over 15-year-olds in all City of Turku indoor sports facilities other than during the physical exercise or training.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the daycare centres, schools and educational institutions in Turku also follow enhanced hygiene practices.
