Exactly ten years ago, the weather was equally chilly as today when Turku's European Capital of Culture year began with a spectacular outdoor show and 80 000 spectators.
In 2011, there was something going on in Turku every day. The thousands of programme workers had prepared for the year for a long time, and now the citizens had a whole year to enjoy.
The programme featured both grand public events, as well as small and intimate shared community activities; international, Finnish and Turku-based stars and everyday surprises.
In 2011, joy was all around!
During this 10-year jubilee, we will celebrate culture, community spirit and cooperation in the spirit of the 2011 European Capital of Culture year.
Culture (still) does good!
