The Vaski libraries will switch to a new library system between 19 May and 3 June 2021. During this time, the Vaski libraries will not offer loan, return or reservation services. E-materials and some of the libraries’ other services can be used. The system change makes it possible for libraries to develop new services and save financial resources.

Most service points in the Vaski libraries are closed or have limited opening hours during the system change. You can check the opening hours for your own library at the library or at vaskikirjastot.fi.

Limited services during the break - all e-materials can be used

Reservations cannot be picked up during the system change. They can only be picked up when the new library system is in use. The last day to collect these reservations is 15.6. Libraries kindly ask patrons not to return material during the break: the libraries cannot handle the materials and can give no receipt for returned material. There are no due dates during the system change. Due to the system change, we have postponed the due date to 15.6. on all loans with due dates on 11.5. or later.

It is not possible to make new library cards, update contact information or pay fees, and you will not be able to log in to the online library. Self-service hours cannot be used either.

During the system change, magazines and other library material can be read on site during opening hours. You can search the online library at vaskikirjastot.fi. to check shelf placement and availability. It is also possible to use reading places, insofar as corona restrictions are eased. The library computers can be used, and it is possible to print. In addition, all e-material can be used. The use of e-materials requires that you have a PIN code linked to the library card.

Events and exhibitions are held normally, taking into account corona restrictions. The schoolchildren's library visits continue as remote visits. Book talks are also held remotely.

The new Koha system brings changes to using the online library

With the new system, the patron can reset their PIN code if their e-mail address is stored in the system. In the future, the patron can also decide on their own reservation number. It is also possible to freeze your reservations, for example during the holidays. This feature has long been the patrons’ wish.

In the future, the delay reminders will only be sent by e-mail. If there is no e-mail address in the system for the patron, the message is sent by letter. The patron can also receive loan and return receipts directly to their e-mail. Advance notice of the due date will only come once.

You can no longer borrow only with an ID

With the new library system, it is not possible to borrow with your ID document. The loan history collected in the old system disappears from the online library, so if you want to keep it, you must save it as a favorite list before 18.5. If a patron has many cards in the Vaski libraries, only one card is transferred to the new system.

The Koha open source system is widely used in Finnish libraries. Switching to this system in Vaski libraries also enables more open collaboration between libraries.
