Turku Mayors
The new political model of leadership and structure of city bodies of Turku has taken effect on August 1, 2021. The highest executive authority of the city are represented by the Mayor and three Deputy Mayors.
The Mayor and the three Deputy Mayors make up the Mayoral body which directs and integrates the activities of the City, according to the decisions made by the City Council and City Board. The members of the Mayoral body are full-time officials.
The Mayor acts as the chairperson of both the City Board and the City Group division and directs the City administration, finances and other activities.
The Mayor’s other duties:
- Directing the political process as required by the City Council and City Board.
- Taking care of the conditions for the City Inhabitants’ participation and interaction.
The Deputy Mayors act as vice-chairpersons of the City Board and other boards.
The Turku Mayors were elected at the City Council meeting, August 23, 2021.
The Mayor of Turku is Minna Arve (KOK/NCP).
The Deputy Mayor of social services and healthcare (division) is Mirka Muukkonen (VAS/Left Alliance).
The Deputy Mayor of urban environment (division) is Elina Rantanen (VIHR/GREENS).
The Deputy Mayor of childhood and education (division) is Piia Elo (SDP).
The Deputy Mayors’ division of labour will be revised after two years.
