Refugees and asylum seekers with residence permits are provided doctors’, nurses’ and psychologists’ services by the Immigrant Office for a period of three years. After this period, they will be directed to an ordinary health station by a nurse.
A public health nurse will invite the customer to their first visit and book them an appointment. For subsequent appointments, the customer may book appointments at the premises Mon-Fri 8.15-11.30 or by phone.
The open child welfare clinic is meant for Turku-based customers of maternity and child welfare clinics. The parents take care of the maintenance of the child according to their maintenance capacity and the child’s maintenance needs. Factors that will be taken into account when assessing the parents’ maintenance capacity are age, work capacity, possibility to work, disposable funds, and other maintenance obligations.
Mainly, the child’s right to receive maintenance from his/her parents ends when the child becomes 18 years of age. Even after this the parents are responsible of the costs of the child’s education, if this is considered reasonable (education allowance).
Vamos Turku is a service produced by Helsinki Deaconess Institute. It offers support in the form of individual and group training for 12–19-year olds.
The training supports the growth and well-being of the youth both at home, in school, and during free time. We can help with matters related to the youth’s school attendance, coping, becoming independent, social relationships, or free time. The training is walking with the youth and supporting him/her through the changes. The training is based on the youth’s own goals, wishes, and needs.
The administration of the disability services analyses the need for services and financial support measures included in the act and decree on disability services and their implementation on a customer-specific basis. The aim is to ensure that persons with disabilities can be self-reliant and have opportunities to participate. The customer's service package is based on an individual service plan. Services include transport services, personal assistance and housing arrangements.
At the clinic we safeguard your health, that of your unborn child and entire family. We also support you in preparing for the changes that childbirth will bring. You will see a public health nurse and a doctor during the pregnancy and, if you wish, participate in ultrasound examinations and prenatal screening. Spouses are welcome to appointments. Prenatal acknowledgment of paternity can also be done.
Our city’s health stations are open Monday to Friday 8–16. Always book an appointment with the nurse or the doctor in advance.
Your health station should provide you with a personal physician if you suffer from a chronic disease.
All residents of Turku are assigned a health station near their place of residence. If you wish, you may change the health station assigned to you. You are also free to make use of the Turku health centre services even if you do not live in Turku.
Mediation is an opportunity guaranteed by law to mediate and solve conflicts caused by criminal acts and conflicts. Mediation is a free service which provides both the offender and the victim an opportunity to meet confidentially through an impartial mediator in order to discuss constructively, to influence the resolution and to agree on possible damage compensation.
Mediation is possible only between persons who have expressed their consent and are able to understand the meaning of mediation and the solutions arrived at in the mediation process.
Hospital at Home is specialized health care provided at the patient's familiar home with the patient's consent and to the degree the patient's condition and treatment methods allow. Hospital at Home care is appropriate for diabetics treated with insulin, patients with cancer, patients on intravenous antibiotics and erythrocyte transfusion and patients with cardiac insufficiency. Patients are referred for admission from the home municipality internal diseases hospitals, municipal health stations, the emergency services, the Turku University Hospitals or private doctors.
The Social Ombudsman helps social welfare clients with matters related to maintenance grant, child welfare and services for
the elderly and disabled, for example. The responsibilities
of the Social Ombudsman include counselling on matters related to applying the Social Welfare Clients Act, helping with matters
related to reprimands according to the Clients Act and providing information on client rights.
Oral health care provides the following services to Turku residents of all ages:

In school health care, the growth and development of the pupil is followed in cooperation with the parents, teachers and Pupil Welfare staff. Every school has a nurse and a doctor.
In school health care, the growth and development of the student is followed in cooperation with the parents, teachers and Student Welfare staff. Each upper secondary school has a nurse and a doctor.
Income support is intended to be temporary aid and is a last-resort benefit. In order to receive a last-resort benefit, a report about the applicant must be made which states that he/she is unable ta make a living through paid work, entrepreneurship or other income or assets.
The applicant must actively try to improve his/her living, for example, by trying to find a job, work try-outs at workplaces or apply for a placement at vocational schools.
The Patient Ombudsman provides information about the patient’s rights and acts to promote them. The task of the Patient Ombudsman is to counsel and help the patient as necessary if the patient is unsatisfied with the care and treatment received.
The Patient Ombudsman helps the patient to resolve his or her problem at the place of care. The officer also counsels and helps the patient to make a reprimand, complaint or a notice of patient injury to the Patient Insurance Centre.
Social workers at social welfare offices review the client's use of intoxicants and encourage him or her to become drug-free. In addition, they guide clients with substance abuse problems to take advantage of available substance abuse care services, and participate in the selection of a treatment facility, if necessary. Outpatient and therapeutic services are of primary importance to a person with substance abuse problems. Clients are referred to detoxification or withdrawal treatment, as needed.
On weekdays, your local health station functions as your primary place of care in all cases of illness.

The aim of the child custody is to secure the child's balanced development and welfare according to the child's individual needs, wishes and age.
Child custody should secure positive and close relationships for the child, especially between the child and his/her parents.
The custody and right of access agreements are confirmed by child welfare officers.
At the Child Welfare Clinic, we follow the development of your child from infancy to the start of school. We help your family address questions about child development, upbringing and care as well as relationship issues and difficult life situations. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
Clinic visits are arranged as nurse’s and doctor’s appointments and as group clinic meetings. We assist you and your family by working in cooperation with oral health care and early childhood education staff and, if necessary, with our other partners as well.
Orthopedic rehabilitation unit offers demanding rehabilitation services for the elderly patients of Turku. Rehabilitation to home or to a place of further treatment is carried out with medical treatment and research, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, rehabilitaing treatment and activation therapy.
The unit rehabilitates orthopedic patients (patients with fractures, artificial joints) and patients who need help in regaining and improving their functionality.
Patients enter the orthopedic rehabilitation unit with a doctor's referral after a surgical procedure.
The Assistive Technology Unit lends out assistive devices to facilitate mobility, hygiene, toilet use and other needs for people living at home or at home-like institutions.
