Turku Band Festival is a free-of-charge city festival that focuses on Turku-based bands.
This event, which takes place early in the year, is based on an idea to establish an event around just Turku-based bands. The event spreads out into the different music venues of Turku and attempts to promote the bands, regardless of their experience or style. The only requirement is that all gigs will be free-of-charge for the audience.
The bands selected for the Turku Rock Academy will be chosen through Turku Bandstand.
For 22 years, Turku Bandstand was held as a competition. In 2019 it became a review that focused more on giving feedback to the bands. From the bands taking part in Turku Bandstand 3–5 will be selected into Turku Rock Academy every year.
The Turku Rock Academy band clinics are information-packed events covering the whole music industry field and band activities. The clinics are open to all citizens.
The visiting lecturers are top experts of the music industry and inspiring speakers who share their refreshingly varied viewpoints. The clinics are free-of-charge and require no advance registration. The clinics offer a comprehensive review of the music business.
These events are mandatory to bands participating in the Turku Rock Academy.
In addition, through its partners Turku Rock Academy will arrange regular opportunities to perform for the participating bands. Turku Rock Academy's partners include e.g. Ruisrock.
What is Turku Rock Academy?
Turku Rock Academy (TRA) focuses comprehensively on making music and the different aspects of performing it. TRA offers the youth information about the different career options in the music field as well as extensive views and support for finding employment in the field.
