Turku has already halved its emission from the year 1990
The greenhouse gas emissions of Turku are calculated annually, using the local calculation method of the CO2 report, as part of the monitoring of the implementation of the city strategy and climate plan.
Turku aims to be carbon neutral by 2029 and climate positive from then onwards. 2029 is also a year when Turku will be 800 years old. A sustainable gift for the city would be attaining carbon neutrality.
The goal and its accompanying plan are bold and exemplary. The thrust is to inspire, encourage and support climate actions from all areas of the society - individuals, companies, city units, groups, businesses, civil society and so on. The plan was developed and is being implemented with the continuous input of all societal stakeholders.

Bold Imprints towards Carbon neutrality from the (B)oldest City in Finland
Turku’s current climate plan, with one of the most ambitious climate targets-carbon neutrality by 2029- was unanimously approved by the city council in June 2018. One year after, there are already several bold footprints of walking the talk. Some of the bold footprints towards a carbon neutral Turku by 2029 are:
Cities are working together to address climate change in many ways and through different mechanisms and organizations. They are providing data on emissions and reduction targets, sharing best practices on mitigation and adaptation, making city level commitments, and advocating for climate action at national and international levels, amongst others. Cities actively participate in international processes and negotiations. Cities are undertaking these actions through existing city networks, by forming new alliances and by supporting international processes.

When you are accepted to study in Finland, the international office of your university will coordinate a tutor for you. The tutor will help you with all the practical matters with your arrival, like checking in at the university or UAS and getting a starting package (if your student union has one) if you need one.
Although it varies depending on the university, the tutor should contact you about a month before your arrival at the latest, so keep an eye on your e-mail (and the spam folder!).
