Temporary Traffic Arrangements
Temporary traffic arrangements are needed if traffic has to be restricted. All temporary traffic arrangements must be reported to the Turku Urban Transport Center by submitting a notification on temporary traffic arrangements.
Arriving to Turku
Turku is located on the South-Western coast of Finland. Our city is easy to reach by public transportation from all the other major cities in Finland. Turku is about two hours away from both Helsinki and Tampere. You can arrive to Turku by air, sea, rails and roads.
The Funicular is the first outdoor inclined elevator in a Finnish city. The funicular offers unimpeded access to Kakolanmäki hill where there is no other public transport. The funicular will run between Linnankatu and Graniittilinnankatu at Linnankatu 55b.
Travelling on the funicular is free of charge and it serves passengers on weekdays from 4:30 am to 01:00 am and on weekends from 05:00 am to midnight.
The funicular has a lower station and a top station at both of which you can get on or off.
Public Transport in Turku = Föli
After your arrival in Turku, you may want to get yourself acquainted with the local transportation system. In Turku travelling by bus is cheap and easy. Turku region public transport is known under the name of Föli.
You can take advantage of the student price on public transport if you are aged 20–30 and come from or live in one of Föli municipalities (Turku, Kaarina, Raisio, Naantali, Lieto and Rusko). You are able to use the same ticket to travel throughout the entire city region.
The service area of public transport organises public transport services open to all in the Föli municipalities of Turku city region. Regional public transport serves six municipalities; Turku, Kaarina, Raisio, Naantali, Lieto and Rusko. Regional public transport is responsible for preparing and implementing affairs related to the area of Turku Region Public Transport Committee in conformity with its orders.
The service area is managed by a public transport director.
The school bus card is valid in the buses of Turku’s internal public transport on schooldays and it entitles for two trips per day. Time limit for changing buses is 75 minutes.
Loading the card
A granted bus card should be reclaimed from the Public Traffic Service Office (Aurakatu 5). A student whose right for school transport remains valid to the following school year should load their card at the Service Office in the beginning of August (no need to post a new application).
Föli
Föli means the Turku region public transport jointly organized by six municipalities, launched on 1 July 2014. The municipalities taking part in Föli are Turku, Kaarina, Raisio, Naantali, Lieto and Rusko. Turku Region Public Transport Committee makes decisions about matters related to public transport.
Holders of Ukrainian passports may travel on Föli, the Turku public transport system without a ticket from 9 March.
Use of face mask recommended
As schools start, the City of Turku recommends the use of face masks for all passengers in public transport.
Kollektivtrafiken i Åbo stadsregion Föli tar i bruk de första elbussarna inkommande höst. Finländska Linkker Oy levererar sex elbussar. Arbets- och näringsministeriet har beviljat cirka en miljon euro i investeringsstöd för genomförandet av anskaffningen.
