Based on the assessment by the occupational therapist, the occupational therapy is planned and executed both at hospital and at the customer’s home environment. The customer’s coping at home as well as the need for assistive devices and need for changes at home will be evaluated during the home visit.
The occupational therapist also makes tailored upper limb supports and support collars, as well as fits ready-made supports.
The occupational therapist works in co-operation with the customer’s next of kin and other specialists participating in the care.
An occupational therapist assesses the child’s ability to function in everyday life situations at home, day care or school. Therapy or assistive technology services will be planned and guidance or counselling will be given based on this assessment.
Children’s occupational therapists also participate in the rehabilitation teams and the making of rehabilitation plans in the children’s neurological unit and special schools as experts of their own field.
The aim of occupational therapy is to support persons who have difficulties with coping in daily life due to a disease, disability, old age or life situation.
Solutions for everyday challenges are being thought of in occupational therapy together with the customer.
A referral from the attending doctor is always needed for occupational therapy. In matters related to assistive devices the customer, his/her close relatives or a home care worker can contact the occupational therapist directly if needed.
