The City of Turku Oral Health Care unit invites pupils for an oral health check when they are in their 1st, 5th and 8th years at school. In addition young people are invited for an oral health examination at the age of 16.
The intervals between examinations and treatments may be more frequent depending on the individual’s need as assessed by an oral health professional. We carry out examinations at dental clinics as well as in mobile units at schools.
New customer at the immigrant office
The services of the immigrant office are targeted at immigrants with refugee backgrounds in Turku who have lived in Finland for a maximum of three years.
Sign up at the immigrant office info desk Mon–Fri 9–10 a.m. and take your ID card, residence permit decision and rental agreement with you.
In an emergency, always call the general emergency number 112 and act according to the instructions received on the telephone.
Guidelines for accidents at school
School meal is an important part of the educational work of the school. The school meal is used to guide the pupils towards the right kind of eating habits and good manners.
The school lunch is meant to cover one third of the energy need of the day. In addition to providing energy for the school day, the lunch will advance the well-being of the child/youth, reinforce eating habits that advance health, teach good manners, and lead diners to new tastes.
The activities of the family clubs are preventive child protection. You can join the service under the guidance of a nurse of the Maternity Clinic or the Child Welfare Clinic or a social worker specialized in child welfare.
The employees of the group provide guidance on issues related to the childcare and upbringing as well as they support parenting. In family clubs you can learn everyday skills and prevent exhaustion and loneliness as a parent. The club also provides peer support for the families.
The home service for families with children includes, for example, the necessary assistance in the home care and support for the daily routines of the family with children, support for the parenting and for the functioning of the family.
The contact person is the family conselor of the city, who also makes the mapping home visit, which is a prerequisite for providing the service.

The unit of the Social Work for Adults provides social services for Turku residents who are over the age of 18 and who do not have minor children living in their household. Social Work for Adults supports you in stressful life situations, you hope for a change in your life or you feel that a wide range of challenges have piled up and you are not sure how you will move forward with your life.
Family work is a form of support for families who have a need for social support. Family work is done at the client's home or in groups. The evaluation of the dedicated social worker of the family is required for receiving the service.
If the family has difficulties in coping with its everyday life such as the childcare or a sudden or a prolonged crisis, a family worker can support the family to cope with the situation. The family worker searches for networks that support the daily life of the family together with the family.
In the units of the Social Work for Families with Children, the social workers assess the service needs in cooperation with the client, with his or her relatives and with other actors in case it is necessary. Other workers of the team can also participate in the evaluation of the service needs of the client.
Every resident of a municipality has the right for the evaluation of the service needs based on the Social Welfare Act.
During the evaluaton of the service needs
Social Guidance includes counselling, advising and support in the use of the social services. The Social Advisor helps you to find suitable social services and to combine different forms of social service as well as gives advice related to your rights as a customer. You can get practical helps in taking care of your matters such as filling in applications.
Social Advisor provides guidance and support specially for the adults of the family or for example for a young person who wants to become independent.
Social Work for Families with Children supports you in difficult situations when you want to have a change in your life or when you feel overwhelmed by several kinds of challenges and you aren't sure how to get forward in life.
Social Work for Families with Children is done in cooperation with the family. The social workers search for suitable solutions depending on the situation of each family. They encourage the families in the change and work in cooperation with the network of the city and each family.

All prescriptions are primarily renewed by the unit in charge of your treatment
All health stations and local service points are equipped with feedback terminals that are used to collect information about customer satisfaction. The replies collected with these terminals are automatically compiled into monthly reports.
You may also submit your feedback online via the City of Turku feedback service or with printed customer feedback forms that are available in the City’s service locations.
Feedback related to laboratory and imaging services can be submitted via the Hospital District of Southwest Finland feedback service.
Your local health station is your primary provider of health care services in all cases of accidents and illness. A nurse will assess your situation and book an appointment, if necessary.
