Turku's urban tree plan is the city's common policy, the main goal of which is to increase knowledge and protect the well-being and values of trees. The real estate department prepared the policy in cooperation with urban planning, building control, environmental protection, and museum services. The plan is a continuation of the development work related to trees, for which Turku received the honor of European city of trees in 2011. The goal is for Turku to be a large urban tree arboretum in the future.
The blue-green coefficient is a tool for checking yard plans. It is used to estimate:
- the amount of vegetation and surfaces on a plot/block
- the quality of vegetation and surfaces on a plot/block
- an indicative estimate of how much the site's vegetation, surfaces, and possible stormwater structures delay stormwater
The blue-green coefficient breaks down the green efficiency of the plot/block, i.e., the ratio of vegetation and ecologically useful surfaces to the built-up area.

What will happen to the old Concert Hall?
Planning is underway in the area of the existing Turku Concert Hall based on the winning competition entry "Agora" created by Rakennusliike Lapti Oy and Lundén Architecture Company. In their proposal, the existing Concert Hall and other buildings protected by the draft detailed plan would be preserved, and a versatile sports and culture centre for children and youth would be located in the Concert Hall building. The buildings on the site will be handed over to the future owners in phases as they are vacated by the present users.
The Turku Music Hall Fuuga project will be carried out under a collaborative alliance model, and the project plan was prepared in close cooperation between the alliance partners. The goal is to achieve the high quality criteria set for the Music Hall in a cost-effective and risk-free manner.
Turku Music Hall Fuuga will feature two auditoriums: a 1,300-seat main concert hall and a 300-seat multipurpose hall. The Music Hall will also contain a restaurant open to the public throughout the day, as well as a rooftop terrace with a restaurant and garden.
Turku Music Hall Fuuga will be built on Independence Square on the east bank of the Aura River.
The future Music Hall will offer world-class acoustics for orchestral music as well as a modern setting for a wide range of events appealing to different audiences.
Over the years, City of Turku has invested in electric mobility and acted as a pioneer in many matters. The electrification of Turku started already in the 90s.

City of Turku acquired its first electric cars already in the 1990s. At the same time, it also inspired others to move around in an environmentally friendly way. New charging stations appeared on the street, which electric car drivers could use for free.
Development of Electric Charging
City of Turku is involved in the international USER-CHI project funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 program, the purpose of which is to promote e-mobility in many different ways. The project gives cities and private operators tools and practical examples of smart charging services and their implementation. On a European scale, the project gives the opportunity to develop the local charging infrastructure to be compatible with the rest of the EU region.

A living light will be projected onto the buildings in the area. This light, together with a magic forest built for the Christmas Market from different-sized spruce trees, will offer rich experiences to all visitors.

The work that comments on climate change is based on a 3D model of Turku. Both the model and the artwork based on it have been implemented by Zoan Oy. The piece is the first artwork created in the Linnanniemi art programme.
A bright beam of light, which can reach up to 15 kilometres, rises to the sky from the deck of Hostel and Museum Ship Bore This is not just any old lamp, but a massive Sperry floodlight dating back to the Second World War. The diameter of the spotlight is only 1.5 metres, but it casts light up to the sky with the intensity of 800 million candelas, which corresponds to the light output of approximately 800 million candles.
As its name suggests, the piece of light art called Under the Surface, and the soundscape associated with it, take you to experience life from a surprising perspective. This work of light art changes on a weekly basis and shows how different seasons look under the surface. Will you experience an autumnal storm or the gently lapping waves of the summer?

The Maiden of the River Aura is a multidisciplinary audiovisual work. It is based on a mystical spirit, the Maiden of the River Aura, who travels through time from history to today. This is set against a sound world that, in addition to a melody, describes the character’s growth story in words and contains observations in prose form. The work highlights the significance of the River Aura as a waterway and reminds us of the importance of cherishing the river area and its diversity.
