Work from Culture

Cultural Spearhead Project

A vibrant and versatile cultural city is formed by its creators, high-quality art content, and a healthy and independent professional art scene.

Cultural spearhead project’s Work from culture subproject promotes the economic operating and employment conditions of artists, the structures of the operating environment, and the cooperation between parties. The aim is to increase the visibility of the field of art and culture, build partnerships, strengthen competences, and create new and innovative activities in the field.

Partnerships in art and culture and new, innovative openings

The Cultural spearhead project increases the visibility of actors in the field by bringing art into the urban space through, for example, idea and art competitions, programme applications, and service purchases. It also boldly builds new partnerships and innovative operating models based on various experiments.

Operating and employment conditions for artists

Turku has the required operating conditions and employment prospects for professional artists.

The Cultural spearhead project aims to intensify the dialogue between the actors in the field of culture. It also strengthens the networks by organising various cooperation forums and networking events also with actors in other fields. The operating conditions of artists are promoted through new experiments and pilot projects on employment.

An example of this is employing a community artist in the multiprofessional team at the Family Centre. The goal is to build collaboration with the wellbeing services county and to bring art and culture with their related well-being promotion methods into the operation of the Family Centre.

Building competence

In the Work from culture subproject, the operational preconditions of artists are strengthened by providing education.

During spring 2023, the Cultural spearhead project joins forces with the Okulaari project to organize free business training for professionals of the creative industries. The ten-session training series is held in different cultural arenas, and it focuses on topics such as productization, pricing, sale, and marketing of one's competence as well as on basic entrepreneurship skills.

Renewable and creative meeting spaces

The goals outlined in the Cultural Promise include the provision of renewable and creative meeting spaces and opening cultural institutions’ facilities to the other actors in the field. The operating possibilities of artists and other cultural actors will be improved by offering facilities for working and communal activities.

There is room for making and experiencing art and culture.

Spaces for versatile place- and time-bound culture and art pieces are created through piloting the intermediate space model of Turku. Adopting temporarily empty spaces for cultural use will help revitalise the urban environment, support the operational preconditions of artists, and contribute to meeting the workspace needs of the industry.

Cultural Campus cooperation

Cooperation with the Cultural Campus Turku project has begun, with the aim of developing the possibilities of cross-institutional study between higher education institutions in Turku. The parties involved are the higher education institutions of the region and the City of Turku's Cultural and Competence spearhead projects.
