KNIGHTS AND TOURNAMENTS workshop for 1st–4th grade pupils
Price: Entrance fee + Workshop fee 2.50 € / pupil
Let’s learn history with all our senses and by doing!
The Workshop at Turku Castle is open for children during holidays. Access to the Workshop is included in the children’s entrance fee.
It is also possible to reserve the Workshop for a school class or a group of adults for one hour when also reserving the guided tour.
Courses for children and the youth
Fun weekend courses are organized at the Workshop for children and the youth in the spring and autumn.
Children’s Castle includes Knights’ Hall, Castle Workshop, Castle-Elf’s treasure chamber, and the Mini-court of Duke John which illustrates life in the 16th century.
In the Knights’ Hall you can dress up as a castle maiden or try on armour and a helmet. At the Castle-Elf’s treasure chamber you will see the treasures of the Castle-Elf guarded by a wolf. The Mini-court is an accurate model of Turku Castle, with which you can take a peek at life during Duke John.

Turku Castle is a more than 700 year old historical monument. It has stood guard over the river Aura estuary since the 1280’s. Its granite stone walls hold within them the history of Finland, Sweden and the other Nordic countries.
History in a nutshell
The history of Turku Castle begins in the 1280's. During the centuries the fortification gradually changed into a grand greystone palace.
The Main Castle
The Main Castle's passages, halls and chapels bear testament to the fascinating history of Turku, Finland, Sweden and the other Nordic countries. The Sture Church and the Nun’s Chapel hold the Museum Centre’s exceptional collection of medieval wooden religious statues. The Castle Church represents early 18th century. The King’s State Room was Finland’s most important secular room from the early 14th century to the mid-16th century. Nearly all of Sweden’s medieval kings have stayed in this room.

The Museum Shop Fatabur sells books, souvenirs and giftware. There are glass and metal items, and copies of jewelry from the museum's collections. Textiles sold at the shop are produced by local artisans.
The Castle's warehouse, the fatabur, was a place where one could find necessary items for little princes as well as for adult castle dwellers. Just like the Fatabur today!

By bus
From the Market Square: Line 1 from platform D1 towards the harbour ('satama'). There is a bus stop in front of the castle.
By car
Parking is possible on the streets around the Castle. Please note that a parking disc is required for most of the parking spaces.
