Applying for a grant
Who can apply for a grant?
We welcome grant applications from Turku-based sports clubs and associations, as well as associations that organise physical activities for special groups, whose coaches, instructors, or administrative staff have participated in training.
When to apply for the grant?
The application period for the grant runs from 1 March to 31 October each year.
If it is not possible to attach a receipt to the application at the time of submission, enter an estimate for the costs of November and December.
What can the grant be used for?
We award the grants based on the eligible costs incurred from training. The training for coaches and instructors must include content related to the quality of coaching in order to qualify for a grant. The club’s internal training events must have an external trainer and a clear impact on the club’s coaching or training activities.
The grant does not cover the club’s internal work meetings or free training sessions provided by the City of Turku or other organisers.
The acceptable costs for training organised in Finland are:
- Course and accommodation costs
- In training organised by regional organisations with participants from the entire operating area, we only take into account the cost share of the member from the club applying for the grant
The acceptable costs for training abroad are:
- Course, accommodation and travel expenses
How much funding is available?
For coaches and instructors working with children, the grant aims to cover 60–70% of eligible costs. For coaches, instructors and administrative staff working with adults, the target coverage is 30-40% of eligible costs. The final grant percentages will be determined after calculation.
The maximum grant for short-term courses is EUR 500 per person per course, with a maximum of EUR 500 per person per year.
For training aimed at a further vocational qualification in sports or continuing vocational education and training, the maximum eligible costs are EUR 3,000 per person. When a sports club applies for a grant to cover the education costs of a person enrolled in a two-year vocational programme, the trainee must have completed at least 50% of the total study credits or the mandatory training periods for the first year. We only provide assistance for the costs of the aforementioned education once a year. The Sports Committee may, if necessary, consider cases individually, for example, when the completion of a vocational qualification is interrupted, or when the education lasts longer than two years.
