In special tracks you can get specialised education in certain subjects. In a special track you can get more advanced and applied study units for a subject than in the general track. You can also earn credits to replace mandatory study units with goal-oriented activities.

In the upper secondary schools of Turku you can study in the following special tracks:

ORIGO Study Track (Opening Routes Into General Upper Secondary Education Opportunities)

Starting in autumn 2027 for the first time The ORIGO Programme is designed for students completing comprehensive school who wish to continue their studies in a Finnish-language upper secondary school but still need support in developing their Finnish language skills.
 
The main objective of the programme is to strengthen students’ language proficiency so that they can successfully complete upper secondary education and the Finnish matriculation examination in Finnish. Key elements of the programme include preparatory Finnish as a Second Language (S2) courses and language-aware teaching practices integrated into the curriculum.

Finnish is the primary language of instruction in the ORIGO Programme. During the first year of studies, English is also used systematically to support learning alongside Finnish. As students’ Finnish language skills develop, the use of English is gradually reduced, and in the later stages of the programme Finnish becomes the sole language of instruction. For this reason, students are expected to have a good command of English at the beginning of their studies.

Who can apply to a special track?

You can apply to an upper secondary school special track with a basic education certificate or its equivalent.

The students are chosen based on the average of their grades in theoretical subjects and based on skills required by the track. You can find more information about the application requirements from the schools’ website.

Applying for special tracks

You can apply to upper secondary education via the joint application system. The joint application happens in the Studyinfo service during the spring.
