Absence report as a tool of evaluating the situation
Teachers and guardians automatically receive a student's absence report in Wilma after 50, 100 and 150 hours of absence during the school year.
Absence limits are based on research, guidance from the Ministry of Education and Culture and regional and local development work. Early detection of problematic absences is important, as a high number of absences undermine learning, school, and class integration, and increase the risk of exclusion.
Each student’s situation is considered individually when the number of absences goes over the limit and the reasons for the absence are discussed. At the same time, the impact of the absences on the student’s studies and the need for any additional support will be assessed.
The teacher makes an assessment of the situation and agrees with the student and their guardian on the measures to be taken and how to move forward. The student's schooling and learning is supported as necessary in cooperation with the student welfare staff.
