By using network-type operating models, the project aims to create a globally attractive and boldly experimental centre of excellence that offers diverse functionalities and logistical advantages.
The Science Park area, which extends from the Turku University Campus to the Kupittaa job cluster and further to Itäharju, is the primary growth hub for expertise and high-tech jobs in the entire urban region. The Science Park spearhead project offers a platform for smart city research and development, where future solutions can be tested and showcased.
Success through cooperation
The success of Turku Science Park relies on partnership thinking, shared goals and making use of diverse expertise. The Science Park ecosystem includes approximately 300 organisations and forms a close network with higher education institutions.
Our key partners in the development of Turku Science Park are the universities and higher education institutions operating in the region, the Wellbeing Services County of Southwest Finland (Varha) and Turku Student Village Foundation. The regional development company Business Turku, Turku Technology Properties, University Properties of Finland Ltd and numerous other companies in the region are also strongly involved in developing the area.
Urban space for innovations and encounters
The development of Science Park is guided by the Turku Science Park Vision, published in 2024. It is an updated version of the earlier future vision for Turku Science Park (Masterplan 2050).
The vision creates the conditions for 18,000 new jobs and 16,000 residents in the Science Park area, extending towards Itäharju. The estimated investment potential is EUR 4 billion, with over 90% coming from private investment.
Attractive investment environment
The City of Turku’s strong commitment to developing the Science Park supports a steady increase in the value of properties in the area. The property market benefits from the concentration of education, technology and industry in the Science Park area. The university hospital also strengthens the area’s role as a significant innovation and research hub.
The planned rail transport reforms will improve connections in the area. They make Turku and the Science Park easily accessible, enhancing the area’s attractiveness and increasing demand for properties.
Overall, the area’s development allows for the building of over 900,000 square metres of floor space. Construction is expected to continue until the 2070s.
