The City of Turku's traffic safety measures and traffic safety management are coordinated by an inter-agency working group on sustainable mobility, which includes representatives from different sectors and actors relevant to traffic safety.
Traffic safety is improved through the maintenance of streets and traffic routes and through traffic planning as part of the city’s basic work. Improvements are also made based on feedback from residents. Particular attention is also paid to road safety, for example in school drop-off zones and in the vicinity of various service facilities.
While the police are responsible for traffic safety enforcement, the city's parking enforcement service monitors parking safety. At the beginning of school years, particular attention is paid to the correctness of parking near pedestrian crossings. The city is also responsible for removing abandoned vehicles that obstruct traffic from public areas.
The city also actively communicates about traffic safety. In the summer, a scooter patrol of interns ensures that electric scooter parking spaces are properly marked and promotes safe electric scootering and cycling.
