Turku is known as one of the world’s leading climate and nature cities. The city has already demonstrated how climate and environmental efforts boosts the region’s economy, strengthens the competitiveness of businesses, and attracts international investments.
There is power in collaboration, also in climate work. That’s why the City of Turku has established a Climate Team for businesses, communities, and organisations.
By joining the Climate Team, you become part of building a carbon-neutral Turku, inspiring others, and gaining visibility for your own climate efforts. To date, over 130 local actors from different fields have joined the team.
What does the Climate Team do?
Team members commit to climate, nature, or circular economy actions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions either directly or indirectly. They are also expected to promote sustainability, support sustainable innovations and business activities, and engage residents.
The Climate Team supports its members in achieving their goals. At Coffee Breaks For Climate, other get-togethers and through newsletters, information is shared about climate and environmental work and collaborative opportunities in regional projects.
It pays to boost your reputation, as the city regularly publicises the team’s actions, which are also available in an open database. Members can also use the Climate Team’s logo in their promotional materials.

How to join the Climate Team
The Climate Team is open to all businesses, communities, and organisations in the Turku region who want to commit themselves to promoting climate, nature, or the circular economy work. You can join the Climate Team by following the next steps:
-
1Contact us
Send an email to ilmasto@turku.fi to schedule an appointment to discuss the action you could take to join the Climate Team.
-
2Let's evaluate the impact
Think about what you could do. During the meeting you will describe your action and the city’s climate and environmental specialists will assess its impacts.
Actions should:
• reduce greenhouse gas emissions, either directly or indirectly
• promote biodiversity
• promote the efficient circulation and use of materials. -
3Let’s share your efforts with the public!
News about climate, nature, or circular economy initiatives will be published as part of the "5 Questions About Climate Action" series on the city's website and social media channels. Be sure to share your achievements on your own channels as well!
-
4Join the network's activities
Come network with us! The Climate Team shares up-to-date information at its events. Events are also organized in collaboration with other stakeholders.
Coffee Break For Climate
Grab a cup of coffee and take a peek into a more sustainable future! These coffee breaks are organised online, and occasionally as on-location get-togethers.
Coffee Breaks for Climate provide researched information, ideas, and opportunities to hear about other people’s solutions. These events are organized around once a month, and they are open to all.
Main themes:
- Corporate responsibility
- Climate work
- Circular economy
- Biodiversity
By the beginning of 2025, already 30 coffee breaks have been held. Along the way, participants have had the privilege of hearing about the Kesärauha festival’s circular economy efforts, Hansakortteli’s Green Terrace space, the construction sector’s sustainability transition, green legislation, reporting on commuting emissions, and much, much more.
Would you like to share your climate action at one of the events? You can also suggest a theme that interests you. Contact us!
