How to apply for a dig permit
Apply for a dig permit in good time. Verbal permits are only granted for urgent work.

1Find out the location of cables and other underground equipment and structures
Before starting any digging work, the location of all wires and cables as well as other underground equipment and structures must be determined.
Read instructions on how to do this on the cable map service.

2Are you installing a new cable or device?
When installing a new cable, device or structure, you must first apply for a placement permit.

3Apply for a dig permit
Apply for a dig permit through the electronic permit service (in Finnish and Swedish).
Attach a drawing of the plans and a plan of temporary traffic arrangements. You can use the standard drawings in the instructions.

4Wait for the permit decision
Work may not be started before a positive permit decision.

5Notify when work is completed
Report the completion of the work in writing to the permit service through the “pre-application surveys and messages” menu under dig permits. Permit service is in Finnish and Swedish.
If cables or other structures were installed during the works, report their placements to the cable map service.
