Why is the Residents' Budget important?
Turku wants to be an inclusive city where everyone has the opportunity to participate and contribute to common issues.
The Residents' Budget is part of the city's inclusiveness. It gives Turku residents the opportunity to have a concrete impact on their living environment and to make it more comfortable and functional.
Propose
Suggestions are invited from a wide range of Turku residents. Proposals can be submitted by an individual, a group, or an association. Proposals are accepted on the City of Turku's website at asukasbudjetti.turku.fi (only in Finnish and Swedish).
What can be proposed?
A proposal can be aimed at any age group, from children to senior citizens. Suggestions can include better lighting, a hobby group, public art, an event or a table for picnics along a familiar outdoor trail. However, proposals must meet the criteria of the Residents' Budget (only in Finnish and Swedish).
The criteria specify that proposals must relate to activities within the city's remit. They also require that the Residents' Budget funds concrete activities, not just the planning process or the hiring of permanent staff.
Proposals can be submitted for all nine major areas. In addition, one category is for the whole of Turku if activities take place in several areas.
Vote in May 2026
Plans will be developed during the spring. All Turku residents aged 13 and over can vote for their favourite between 1–31 May 2026.
Implementation and past projects
The proposals selected in the vote will be developed together and implementation plans will be drawn up. In 2026, the city will implement the plans that won in the 2026 Residents' Budget round during 2027. The implementation will be carried out in cooperation with associations, businesses and residents.
A total of 247 projects have been implemented in the first three rounds. These include outdoor sports facilities, sports groups, lean-tos, hobby clubs, art workshops, and theatre.
