Multilingual library services

In the Vaski libraries, you can find books and other materials in more than 50 languages. You can browse the collections in the web library or ask the library staff for help finding books. 

If you cannot find books in the language you want at your local library, you can reserve them from other libraries or order books from the Helsinki Multilingual Library. The web library also has a PressReader service where you can read magazines in more than 60 different languages.

You can also borrow easy-to-read books from the library. The books are written in plain language. It has simpler structure, words and content than standard language. 

Plain language is helpful for Finnish language learners or people who find regular text hard to read, such as those with learning difficulties or disabilities that make reading challenging.

The Multilingual Library is located in the Pasila Library in Helsinki. Its collection contains books in over 80 languages. You can borrow books from the Multilingual Library through your local library. You need a Vaski library card to borrow items. You can use the Multilingual Library free of charge. 

The following languages are not part of the Multilingual Library’s collections: English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Russian, Estonian, Nordic languages.
