We support sports clubs and associations organising sports activities in Turku with various grants. We have compiled information on all grants of the Sports Committee on this page. More information on the application criteria, grounds for granting, and the necessary appendices for each form of grant are available on grant-specific pages.
Applying for grants
Who can apply for a grant?
The applicant must be a registered association with a domicile in Turku. An exception to this is the Young Athlete’s Grant, which is also available for private individuals.
How do I apply for a grant?
Apply for a grant in the City of Turku’s electronic grant system: Grant application service (in Finnish and Swedish)
If the club cannot use the e-service, you can use the customer computer at the Sports Services Centre. You can also ask for help filling in the application during your visit to the Centre. There are also customer computers in the Main Library and Turku-piste service point.

The Sports Committee supports associations whose municipality of residence is Turku (excl. Young Athlete’s Grant). When an association moves from another municipality to Turku or an association that has established activities in another municipality merges with a new association established in Turku:
- When deciding on grants, the Sports Committee assesses on a case-by-case basis the actual nature and content of the established activities of the association, its impact on the well-being of Turku residents and the main specialisation of the activities. The assessment is based on an overall evaluation that also takes into account the supply of municipal sports resources in relation to demand and the provisions of the Act on the Promotion of Sports And Physical Activity and the Local Government Act.
- The Sports Committee decides on the granting of support on a discretionary basis. Based on a case-by-case review, the Sports Committee decides to approve or reject the grant application for each applicant association and grant form.
- The Sports Committee decides on the amount of the grant separately for each form of grant.
The aforementioned principles apply to established associations that have changed their registered municipality of residence to Turku in 2023 or later. The principles also apply to associations established outside Turku that have merged with an association from Turku established in 2023 or later.
If the applicant violates the instructions or deliberately reports their information incorrectly, the grant will be recovered in its entirety even if it has already been granted and/or used.
The Sports Committee may order the grant to be returned if, during the grant period, the association violates
- the ethical guidelines (the ethical principles of Fair Play)
- anti-doping programme of the Finnish Olympic Committee
- the recommendation of the Finnish Center for Integrity in Sports FINCIS (inappropriate behaviour and harassment in sports)
- the following section of the Act on the Promotion of Sports and Physical Activity (360/2015): “The purpose of the Act is to promote equality and non-discrimination through physical activity and to support cultural diversity and the sustainable development of the environment”.
The Sports Committee is committed to strictly clean sports. The applying club has a general duty of supervision and an obligation to provide information in regard to anti-doping work. If the athletes of a local sports club or association violate the valid anti-doping policies in Finland (see e.g. www.suek.fi, Finnish Center for Integrity in Sports / Suomen Antidopingtoimikunta ADT ry), the Sports Committee has the right to order the grant to be returned.
In the event of a doping violation, a fine is imposed whose sum is relative to the sum of the operating grant. The amount of the fine is withheld from the following year’s grants or a recovery procedure is initiated. The fine is decided on a case-by-case basis: the club’s strong commitment to anti-doping work and preventive measures have a mitigating effect on the fine.
