What is School Youth Work?
Turku schools employ school youth workers who are familiar and safe adults in everyday school life.
School youth workers work at basic education schools (lower grades) in Pansio, Lauste, and Ilpoinen, and at basic education school (higher grades) Turun Lyseon koulu, Rieskalähde, Ypsilon, Syvälahti and Nummenpakka (the Aurajoki unit).
In addition to basic education schools, the Turku Vocational Institute has an outreach youth worker working in its units.
You can contact school youth workers at a low threshold by sending a message, calling or even in the school hallway. You can talk to us about things related to, for instance, school and friendships. We can also help with finding a hobby, bullying situations or when you change schools. The conversations are always voluntary and confidential.
We also organize many kinds of activities during and after the school day. For example, we implement various theme classes, group sessions, events, information sessions, clubs and trips in cooperation with other school staff and organizations. We also work with student councils and support students.
We work closely with other members of the school staff and our work is always tailored to the needs of the school.
